Greenwich – before and after

In my ongoing series of ‘before and after’ this is a painting of Greenwich Observatory, seen from Greenwich Park, London. First commissioned by Charles II in 1675, the Observatory is now part of the Royal Museums Greenwich along with the National Maritime Museum.

This picture is based on a photo I took in 2016:

but with a little help from a publicly-available image of the Observatory. Shortly after I took the photo I based an earlier picture on it:

I’m hoping I’ve improved over that time but they’re very different styles, to say nothing of having zoomed right in on the Observatory in the later picture, which with hindsight I might not have done – the General Wolfe Monument to the left of it would also mark the horizon.
