A new style in collage

This marks a departure for me. At a workshop taught by Alison Vickery at Cheltenham Art Club – developing a collage style in an attempt to break away from the ‘fiddliness’ of previous work. Because if you want accuracy, take a photograph. Painting and art have to be about something more than that.

The picture is of the Old Bridge at Besalu’, in the Catalan Pyrenees. The first bridge here was built in the 11th century; the present one dates from the 14th but was blown up during the Spanish Civil War and rebuilt. It measures 105 metres long by 30 high.
